Empowering minds,
strengthening communities

Mental Health Support Where It Naturally Begins.

WE TRAIN PEOPLE IN COMMUITIES TO BUILD RESILIENCE AND MUTUAL SUPPORT. BY TAKING THE SKILLS TO THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY WE HELP BUILD SAFETY NETS NEIGHBOUR TO NEIGHBOUR.

Balanced Futures delivers Youth Mental Health First Aid training not only to adults, but directly to young people aged 16–18, embedding skills, confidence, and agency within peer groups where support naturally begins.

EmbedED Support where it naturally Happens

Alongside training the adults who support young people, we also deliver a school-based programme that trains young people aged 16 to 18 as Youth Mental Health First Aiders®. Why does this matter? Because when young people are struggling, they often turn to their peers first. Friends notice changes, shifts in behaviour, and warning signs long before adults do. By equipping young people with the skills, language, and confidence to respond, we embed support where it naturally happens, within peer groups.

Why Peer-Led Mental Health First Aid?

Young people live much of their lives within peer groups. They talk, share, and seek reassurance from friends long before they approach parents, teachers, or professionals. Balanced Futures recognises this reality and responds to it.

Improved Networks:
Strengthens peer support groups.

Saves Lives:
And ultimately, saves lives.

  • Taking the mental health course was surprisingly fun and an engaging experience, I didn't expect it to involve much group work, which I fear but it actually ended up being one of the best parts. Overall, I would certainly recommend this course to other students, as it is both fascinating and meaningful way to better understand and support put community.
